Masakalli,Nandhalala,Baawre-WOW!
Two albums other than "Delhi 6" that released this past month have impressed me very much. One from Kollywood. The other from Bollywood.
No,The one from Kollywood is not "Naan Kadavul".Naan Kadavul has quite a devotional feel to it.It may suit the movie better. It has no ingredients of a successful film album.Ilayaraja instead comes up with his typical stuff in "Nandhalala".I love the songs especially "Mella Oorndhu" and "Kai Veesi".Vintage Raja.Lyrics too are highly touching."Oru Vaandu Kootame" reminds you of the ages when Ilayaraja's songs were the lifeline of a movie. This movie too will have Raja's music as the main USP.
Sonam Kapoor-The Pigeon-Rahman's music-Mohit Chauhan's funny voice:This heady combination has swept the whole nation off its feet."Masakalli"-The first chartbuster of 2009- has unfairly eclipsed a nice album by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy."Luck By Chance" is a top notch album even by the toughest standards."Sapnon se Bhare Naina" is one of the best songs sung by Shankar Mahadevan."Baawre" is rustic and transports you to Rajastan in one listening."O Rahi Re" is as good as the title track of "Taare Zameen Par".It is surprising to see this amazing trio not getting their due in Bollywood. The Rahman effect is affecting them badly!
One Worthy Mention:"Aathichudi" song in TN some taxi number(Tamil remake of Taxi 9211) is highly funny-Especially the female voice which complains about the noisy stupidity of such songs.A big chartbuster for sure.
One Warning:Do not go for "Ayan" expecting another VA from the Surya-Harris combo. The songs are highly outdated reminding you of "Bheema","Adiye Kolludhe" and other works of Harris in the past.Harris is running out of ideas..Take a break,Harris!
Anyways,Great start to 2009 for Indian music with Nandhalala,Delhi 6,Luck By Chance and The Golden Globe.
Keep following the blog for more updates on new albums!
