The Curious Case of Green Parrots

We were promised a lot this March 6,7,8.Kriya,after the towering success it had last year, came a cropper this time around.Kriya was supposed to be PSG Tech's very own answer to the likes of CEG's Kurukshetra and NIT's Pragyan with exciting prospects(ranging from the fun-filled Gaming arena to the serious business of Robotics).Kriya was never expected to become a Kuselan! Here is an in-depth account of what went wrong:
1.Publicity:There was very little done on the publicity front. Some guys had doubts as to what was going on in the college."Is Blue Cross going green?",one guy asked seeing the umpteen Parrot models kept throughout the long walk to the Hostel. The parrot and the cage symbolised restriction rather than liberation.Bird with clipped wings can never fly!Kriya turned out to be one such.
2.Robotics Workshop:Too much was expected from the Robotics workshop with such a high registration fees of Rs.3000.It turned out to be a damp squib. The kit given was very rudimentary with few resistors, battery etc.The workshop failed to enthuse the students and relief was the overwhelming emotion at the end of it all.If it had been conducted in Arts and Science college, students would have gone on a hunger strike asking for a refund!
3.General Robotics:I had special interest in it because it was organised by my department senior Mr.Vineeth.The first day was smooth sailing. But the second day proved to be a technical disaster. The BOT race which was supposed to start by 9 AM did not take off till 4 PM,no thanks to some fluctuating power supply and bad lighting in the Hallowed Quadrangle.Other college participants had a tantalising wait to make.It was sad to see a guy like Vineeth suffering because of bad facilities.
4.Video Conferencing:The two video conferences were big flops. One of them had 25 people as audience. They turned out to be boring affairs reminiscent of class room lectures.
4.Go Green?:It was supposed to be an ecofriendly techno fest in tune with the general global mood.We were promised of a Green rally, planting of saplings etc.Nothing took off.Green was seen only in non-ecofriendly synthetic flexes!
The only green lining in the dark sky was the Open Quiz.Conducted by The Association of Serious Quizzers,it turned out to be absolute fun.Questions ranged from the Oscars to "Poi Sola Porom","Futurama" to "Yaaruku yaaro step nee"!!Great show!
Why it went awry? The blame lies not on the students but on the management for not encouraging the highly talented students with proper monetary backing. The very reason why Student's Union printed a Kriya shirt without the name of the college in it!The management has to sit up and take notice.
Looking forward to a better organised and more honest(Ecofriendly?)Kriya next time around!

  1. A brilliant post da. A perfect account of what went wrong. But the few glitches apart, Kriya had a good turn out. Finally, thats what matters in a tech fest. Sponsors were happy and so were the overall coords. Your point on not being eco friendly was indeed true. Robotics workshop was a complete disaster, but the turn out was something that I din't expect. And I was a reason for the fiasco that happened in bot race. I should ve thought about the lighting conditions even before it began. And I forgot to mention a thanks to you in my post da. You were instrumental in bringing the first year guys. Thanks a lot machi.

  3. A brilliant, daring, bold and beautiful post from Umesh - the Master Blogger; as usual. It was absolutely titillating - the way you spoke of the the negligence on behalf of the college authorities. But lets not blame it on them- Lets put the blame ourselves coz
winners dont look for justifications-------They are too busy looking for alternative solutions
