Where Is The Fourth Front?
I am yet to apply for my voter ID as I was caught in the whirlwind of Internals and lab exams and spent the past 2 months in the hostel learning things like 555 is not a cigarette brand but an IC for generating time delays. But that does not curtail me from voicing my opinion on who can rule us the next 5 years.
The Congress-led UPA government has done a neat job providing stability(No one would have expected a Left-Congress combine to stay at the top for 4 years. Then a tough No-confidence motion was confidently handled) and pulling off a civilian Nuclear deal with USA.Laloo is wielding the magic wand in railways. The agro economy is on the rise with loan waivers doing a whole lot of good.Manmohan Singh has started talking about Inclusive growth.(The antithesis of "Rich get richer.Poor get poorer.")A coalition government whose USP is governance must get one more chance.
But the picture is not that rosy.26/11 has exposed the government's soft belly.Internal security is more important than the 123 deal.Jarnail Singh's shoe showed us that Jagdish Tyler and Sajjan Kumar are two wily villains whose sins have only been vindicated by the clean chit given.Congress lacks a charismatic leader as the PM candidate.Manmohan Singh was more comfortable as the governor of Reserve Bank.2009 seems like a dress rehearsal for 2014 when the heir apparent will be projected.Rahul as the next Rajiv. This dynasty politics will cost the Grand Old Party dear.
No one expected a Gandhi from BJP to hog the limelight. With his "cut the hands off" speech,Varun Gandhi is atlast in the headlines. His arrest under NSA has made him a hero in the Hindutva circles.Advani wanted the BJP's campaign to be more conservative sans the RSS-VHP shades.Sanjay's son has changed it all.BJP is caught between communalism and development promising both Ram Temple and low cost rice in it's manifesto."Polarisation or Progress?"-A party with an identity crisis should not rule us at all.
The Third front will only take us backward.Think of a government with Mayavati,Prakash Karat,Deve Gowda,Jayalalitha,Chandrababu Naidu,Naveen Patnaik and even Sharad Pawar. There will be another general elections within this year.Contrasting ideologies, big egos, horsetrading, bargain for renumerative portfolios-Indian democracy should never turn into a farce.
In my state Tamilnadu,The DMK front is losing ground fast.Karunanidhi's flip-flops in the Srilankan Tamils issue, electricity cuts and the anti-incumbency factor will tax the DMK-Congress combine a lot.The fact that PMK has aligned with AIADMK(right from 1998,PMK keeps switching sides just to be in the winning front) is bad news for the elderly statesman of TN.
Vijayakanth(The dark MGR) promises a lot not because of his policies(Once he said that he had the solution to the rampant elecricity cuts and when asked to reveal it,he naively replied"If I say it now,the DMK government will copy my ideas. My ideas cannot be their achievements") but because he is brave enough to go it alone. When big parties like PMK are forced to align with either of the two Dravidian parties,it requires cinematic courage to proclaim"I will align only with people".Salute the captain!
There is no respite for the people whoever we choose to rule us.To make a change, people can try 49O or try forming parties or vote for students(Some IIT students want to be Michael Vasanths and fail because of bad financial support).
A request:Please make sure that you stand in the serpentine queues and exercise your franchise.Do not talk things like "Manmohan is useless!Modi is a criminal" etc when you do not go to vote.I promise that I will apply for my voter ID and will be voting for the next assembly elections in TN.I want to be an Indian.I believe in my country and it's practices. One day,India will really shine and my vote will have contributed to it.Vote and then say "Jai Hind!"
