Meteor Of Centauruz!

"Two men want to cross a river. There is only one boat which can accomodate only one person at a time. But they crossed the river easily. How?
P.S:They do not know what Michael Phelps knows.
P.S 2:The river is not what Vaigai is during summer."-
Answer in the end.
Centauruz, the annual inter-department techno management event conducted by ECEA,was a monumental success considering it's limited ambitions.Pre-final year ECE students were to be seen racking their brains decoding or debugging.I too tried my luck in a technical event(Circuit wizards) but it turned out to be a disastrous decision because my junior(Aravind) started teasing me:"Don't you know even this? How did you come this far to the third year?"I did not even have a gaze at the hall where the microprocessor event was going on.
The second day was more fun: Mindhunterz was an absolute treat(One question is given in the beginning.)Myself and Bala came second.Quiz was,as usual, tough and esoteric. My juniors Divahar and Saravanan Googled their way to finals.Cheating never works:They had no clue to the questions in the finals and the audience were shouting "pass" whenever these two got a turn.
"Destination Davinci" was amazingly entertaining.A treasure hunt around the college which led us to Matlab! Our dreadful knowledge in Matlab aside,we extracted the required image using Masonic cipher(and a lot of help from the senior gals) to display "Eureka! That's all folks" and got a joint third place.
It was not all.The second round of the main event "Star of centauruz" was to unfold. The first round the day before was a rollercoaster ride. The Group Discussion on "Black" was okayish with me taking just two turns."Shipwreck" was great with me choosing the most improbable personality of all:T.Rajendhar.I did not even open my mouth during a JAM on"Rum and Gum".Somehow,I made a jittery entry to the second round on Sunday.
Marketing was a riproaring success.I was made to sell my ID card for a billion rupees.I had to cook up Dodos like beautiful face and pleasant smile to impress the audience.Shilpa(co-rising star in the previous edition)chose the wrong strategy to market her product and got eliminated. It was Ashwin's day.He marketed a computer without monitor and how!In an absolutely Indiglish way(no semicolons,no commas, put fullstop!),he rocked big time.
Mock press was extended fun.I was to be Ajith while Ashwin was Vijay.Ashwin bettered me and every other competitor.I could try to match his sense of humour but not his energy or confidence. The final round(stress interview) had four of us:Deepthi,Joseph,Ashwin and myself.
Deepthi(previous edition's star)'s interview was a repeat of last year. They tried to make her cry but she did not.Joseph was his usual cool self. The speciality in Joseph is that he won't try anything out-of-the-box yet he will stand out unique.I failed miserably. From last year's permarital sex to this year's Homosexuality,my seniors know well to unsettle me.
Ashwin continued his Midas touch.Seniors tried all tricks to stress him.(Even a walkout!)But Ashwin stood firm and tall to become the Star.Joseph was crowned the "Little Star" while I was left to be the meteor.
The event,in hindsight, will be remembered for Mr.Perfect(Arun Kumar)'s organising skills, mad scramble in the treasure hunt, tough question papers, tougher participants and Ashwin.
Answer to the question asked in the beginning:
They were at the opposite banks of the river.
