Ten Heads,One Music!
After multiple listenings(the usual with any Rahman album),Raavan is turning out to be an absolute feast of an album.Notwithstanding my poor Hindi(restricted to "Ek Gao mein Ek Kisan Raha Thatha"),I have become addicted to Raavan.
Beera Beera:
The album starts with an experimental yet heartthumping song which will serve as The Perfect Intro song for the protagonist. The first 15 seconds are an absolute riot with Rahman joining in the humming.Knowing Maniratnam well, this song can be used for the title credits.
Khili Re:
The ubiquitous semi-classical number which borders on Jodha Akbar's "Man Mohana",the song is pleasing enough with exquisite Reena Bharadwaj vocals but not thoroughly gratifying.
Behene De:
A dark song, the song beautifully switches between serene instrumentation and spot-on vocals. After singing lots of useless Harris numbers(oru maalai vizhi moodi yosithal hasili fisili..Rubbish),this song unearths Karthik's best yet.
Ranjha Ranjha:
Rekha Bharadwaj's vocals alone take this song to an entirely new plane.Javed Ali adds to the flavour. The tune is soulful enough to have a lasting impact.
Thok De Gilli:
Sukhwinder Singh joins the party with an absolute corker. The first interlude has astounded me so much that I have listened to it more than 50 times till now.
Kata Kata:
The most unique of all numbers. The picturisation should do justice to the energy Rahman has infused into this "Azeem-o-Shansehenshah" song.
I had planned to post a more thorough review later but I could not resist. Now that the album is out,I should have been happy. But another wait has begun:For the Tamil version.
Not sure why we have to listen hundred times Rahman's music before we like it. After couple of times everything will sound good like Kandhasamy songs.
