Moondram Marijuana!
Very rarely do I get an urge to post on a single song.A song which got released almost 30 years back at that.I am still ashamed that I was always satisfied with The Other Song in "Moondram Pirai".Every time I listened to "Kanne Kalaimane",the pathos(K.J.Yesudoss had sung it as if Sridevi was his own lover) and history(Kannadasan's last song ever) made me conclude that it was the Best Raja song ever.
I never knew that competition for "Kanne Kalaimane" was there in the same album itself. While "Kanne Kalaimane" was keeping with the times,"Poongatru pudhidanadhu" was Raja getting help from H.G wells' Time Machine. It feels as if Raja had composed a song for a 2012 movie in 1982 itself.
The wild violin combines with a serene flute bit to reach a high point when all music stops before Yesudoss takes over with an addictive "Poongatru pudhidanadhu".The interludes are highly electrifying and so are the stanzas.(The violin interlude before the second stanza so beautifully suits a train)Throw away your cigars.Stop running after vodka.Forget the illegal vendors who sell cheap marijuana.Just listen to this song."Poongatru pudhidanadhu" is quite easily the most addictive song ever in Indian cinema.
P.S:Do not give reactions like "Enna Gandhi sethutaara?".After many months of being obsessed with Rahman, this rediscovery of Raja deserves sharing in this space.
