New Year Diary!

*I was watching J.K.Ritesh's Magnum Opus "Naayagan" during the 2009 new year celebrations. In 2010,I was in hostel where the ubiquitous "Ilamai Idho "was screened.A song to beat it is yet to be composed. This 2011,I was in the streets of Madurai with Omkar,Jeyavel and his friends. The entire city was out with us.Cars parked in the middle of the road, doors open and drunken youngsters shaking legs to the frenzied trumpets of "Jilla Vittu".Big crowds were found in churches and temples praying for a year in which onions don't make them cry.
But the most touching sight was that of the policeman with a smile-less face, ensuring that no mishap happens anywhere. He does not celebrate with us,He is all eyes to avoid trouble,He is so sincere.Sad that Tamil movies have caricaturised the Policeman in two extremes: The brave "Kaaka Kaaka" Anbuchelvans or the corrupt one with multiple-wifes subservient to the regime found in many movies. There is a middle path of the policeman who discharges the given duties without complaints. We need a more honest portrayal.Special new year wishes to these unsung heroes who work for you and me even as I am typing this now.

*The best Tamil movie in 2010 has to be "Aayirathil Oruvan".The other contenders lost out due to various reasons: Angadi Theru (Too sad),Nandhalala (Myskin should have given due credit to the Japanese original) ,VTV (Too complex for a supposedly simple story),Madrasapattinam ( Too much emphasis on artistic values and misses out on a strong script),Endhiran (Ambitious. Can be lauded but not celebrated) and Boss (That it makes to the contenders list itself will surprise many but Santhanam single-handedly pulls it off).
That scene in "Aayirathil Oruvan" when the Chola King realises that Karthi is the messenger indeed by relating to the fresco paintings is definitely the peak of scriptwriting in 2010.How many ever times I watch it,it still gives me goosebumps.

*Maybe, she reminds me of some random classmate.Maybe, she is not very fair.I don't know the exact reason. But Amala Paul defined serenity, calm, peace and every other good emotion to me in 2010.The face of the year has to be this Myna.
