A hot summer day in Delhi !
TRANSCRIPT OF MY CIVIL SERVICES PERSONALITY TEST, 20.5.2015
Board : David sir
Optional : Political Science and International Relations
Graduation : B.E ECE
Hobbies : Reading books on contemporary India, blogging, following cricket
Duration : around 25 minutes
Chairman :
1. Expand the initials in your name.
2. Tell me two books on contemporary India which have made the most impact on you ?
3. Tell me some other books of Ramachandra Guha ?
4. Why is "India after Gandhi" your favorite ?
5. You passed out in 2011,have you become unemployable now in 2015 ?
M1:
1. There was a recent incident in which a pilot hacked the plane's information system without using internet. How is it possible ?
(Me thinking : Ya how is that possible ?)
This question and it's branch questions went on for three mins and I kept saying "Sorry,am not aware of it" and it's variants.
2. Where does Ganges Originate ?
What are the states through which it passes through ?
In which place does Ganges drain into the sea ? (I said West Bengal without thinking and this led to some more questions which made me see light that Ganges, after all, drains into sea through former East Bengal which is,of course,a different country altogether)
3. Tell me about disarmament treaties in detail
( I told only about nuclear disarmament conveniently forgetting chemical and biological disarmament conventions. More reminders from the member, More "Sorry sir"s.)
M2
1. Some questions about security concerns of Wifi in Public places (Went on for more than 3 minutes and I was mumbling generic answers with nothing specific or significant to contribute)
2. Smart Homes
3. Samsung vs Apple fight
4. Which match did you find the most interesting in this year's IPL ? ( I told about SRH vs RCB but the member said that there was one more interesting match. So, I tried Kings Eleven vs RR. He told me to explain what happened in the match. I ended up being Ravi Shastri for 2-3 mins.)
M3.
1. What is Solar Eclipse ? What are it's types ?
2. Net neutrality and some questions related to it.
3. Reverse Engineering
M4
1. History of Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple
2. Questions on Srilankan Tamils including this : " So what is the percentage of Buddhists in Jaffna?"
I had prepared decently on lots of topics in various domains like Foreign policy, International affairs, Economy, Polity, Society , hobbies but of course nothing much was asked related to them. The beauty of an unpredictable interview like this is that I caught up with IPL even while I was reading on the nuts and bolts of GST and surprisingly, the former came to the rescue rather than the latter. I sincerely believed I could do justice to my preparation but I couldn't. "Men can live without justice, and generally must, but they cannot live without hope", wrote Eric Hobsbawm once. I live by that even as I edit my new picture to a size less than 40 kb so that I can apply for my fourth Prelims which is on 23.8.2015.
